✔ What to wait on this Prime Day (and how we pick the best deals)
Our writers and editors are deal-hunting experts who verify price drops, star ratings and more to help you save money and shop with confidence. Some deals are sneaky: starting prices can be inflated to make discounts look more impressive, and some items are cheaper elsewhere (or we expect a bigger price drop later this year for Black Friday). So we’re here to do the hard work for you. Want to know what to skip this Prime Day? Here’s what our experts recommend waiting to buy until later this year:
• High-end electronics: While we’ve found some strong tech deals, especially on Amazon devices, mid-range brands and smaller accessories like Apple AirTags, the biggest markdowns on higher-priced tech typically come during Cyber Monday, so it’s probably worth waiting a little longer.
• Large home appliances: While there are some very worthwhile deals on vacuums and small kitchen appliances, we’ll see the deepest discounts on bigger home appliances, like refrigerators and washing machines, come Black Friday.
• Toys: Aside from a few smart seasonal buys, like this sale on Lego advent calendars (grab one now, because they’re unlikely to be discounted in November when everyone else is shopping for them), we’d skip other toys, as Black Friday is a better time to snag gifts.

iRobot
Having any sort of robot vacuum is great, but you know what’s really handy? One that doubles as a mop, so it can clean every type of floor in your house. Sound too good to be true? This highly rated model is living proof! It’s smart enough to avoid carpets and rugs when it’s in mopping mode and can clean up to 900 square feet before needing a recharge. It even has an edge-sweeping brush to lodge dust out of corners and baseboards, along with anti-hair-wrap brushes to trap fur without getting tangled.
Great time to buy: At nearly 60% off, this vacuum is down to its lowest price yet. Zap it up for $180 less while you can.

Need an extra layer for those crisp autumn days? Don’t miss out on this soft fleece hoodie while it’s up to 65% offin certain colors and sizes. It has over 125,000 five-star ratings, including a ringing endorsement from one of our deals experts. Choose from colors like classic black and navy blue — your best deal will be in this classic white, among a couple others. (Prefer a zip-up? Those are on sale too.)
Great time to buy: This is within a dollar of the lowest price we’ve seen for this fan-favorite hoodie, and considering it’ll only be getting cooler, we don’t envision it going lower anytime soon.

Amazon
The latest AirPods Pro came out last October (Apple more recently announced the iPhone 18 Pro and the latest base model buds, the AirPods 5, but not new Pros). They still have the most effective noise cancellation of any Apple earbuds, and our reviewer praised the great sound and improved battery life (eight hours). These buds even have heart-rate sensing for workouts.
Great time to buy: AirPods don’t drop this low this often. This is the best price we’ve seen them at in at least the last 30 days.

Amazon
My one complaint about my air fryer is that it’s not big enough to cook a frozen pizza. Well, OK, one more critique: It also takes up a bit more room than I’d like. So I’ve got my eye on this one from Ninja this Prime Day. It’s roomy enough for a 12-inch pizza, flips up on its back (let it cool first!) to save counter space and can bake, toast, dehydrate and roast in addition to air frying. One recent shopper said it “could be the best air fryer [they’ve] ever had.”
Good deal: A quality, cook-everything air fryer that can handle pizzas for $150? Sold. We’ve only seen this unit dip a few bucks lower this year, and that was months ago.

Amazon
If you’re shopping for a kid who loves Lego for the sheer joy of building, or one whose fandom seems to change every six months, this no. 1 bestseller is a safe — and adorable — bet. And this year’s edition is ridiculously charming: Santa and Mrs. Claus, tiny elves, a snowman, little vehicles and enough miniature holiday scenes to slowly build out an entire Christmas village across your coffee table. Over 9,000 have sold in the past month, so I’m not the only one ready for a little miniature cheer.
Good deal: These calendars tend to get pricier as October rolls around, so $10 off is a nice deal for early-bird shoppers.

Amazon
If you only buy one thing on this list, make it this. The K87 is the tee Carhartt is best known for: heavyweight cotton, a roomy fit that doesn’t cling and that chest pocket with the logo patch. With more than 22,000 ratings, it’s a proven favorite. Right now the grey is the priced the lowest, but this sky blue and light tan are also marked down if your T-shirt drawer could use a full-refresh.
Great time to buy: It doesn’t get better than this: We’ve never tracked this No. 1 bestselling workwear classic for less.

Amazon
Ding, dong — there’s a great deal at the door. This bundle, which contains a Ring battery doorbell and an Indoor Cam Plus, is ideal for shoring up your home security situation without spending a bundle. It’ll monitor the outside of your home as well as a targeted space inside (which is great for, say, checking in on your furbabies while away for the day). You’ll see everything in crisp 2K (which is pretty impressive for a security camera!), control and receive alerts from your phone and spend mere minutes on installation.
Great time to buy: This is the lowest price we’ve ever seen on this useful twosome (nearly 65% off!), so strike while the iron is hot.

Amazon
Whether you’ve got pets or a shedding spouse to contend with, this 7-pound picker-upper was specifically designed to target all of that unsightly hair on your floors and furniture. Its strong suction adapts to whatever surface it’s being used on, whether that’s carpet or hardwood, and you can pop out the built-in handvac to target crumbs on the counter or dust bunnies on your stairs. Oh, and you’ll get up to 40 minutes of usage per charge.
Great time to buy: We haven’t seen this vacuum drop lower in price in months. With that in mind, we don’t expect deeper discounts in the near future.

Ask me what fall smells like, and this candle (and a few others) immediately comes to mind; in fact, it is on my kitchen island right now as I write this, filling my house with the scent of apple pie. Right now, Yankee Candle has a bunch of autumnal aromas — Spiced Pumpkin, Ciderhouse — all on sale for $16 or $17 apiece, with each one lasting for up to 150 hours, so you’ll be able to savor these scents all season.
Good deal: $16 for 150 hours of spectacular scent-age? That’s a deal I can get behind. This is also the lowest price we’ve seen for these fall fragrances in months, and we doubt there will be a more precipitous drop since autumn has now officially arrived.

Even if your part of the country isn’t experiencing sweater weather just yet, things will cool down for just about everyone before you know it. A classic V-neck is one of those autumn staples that everyone should have in their wardrobe, and this timeless top has thousands of perfect ratings to back it up. “It looks luxurious!” swooned a stylish shopper. “The material is lightweight and soft… it is an essential piece in my capsule wardrobe and a great layering piece too!”
Great time to buy: At nearly 40% off, this sweater is down to its best price since spring (and it’s only dropped lower by $2 all year). Better stock up now while it’s marked down in plenty of colors…
Best Amazon deals: Style
From our style expert: Cozy, mid-weight fall staples have been sitting on retailer shelves since back-to-school season, which means they’re most likely to see steep discounts right now. That’s because brands need to make room for heavier winter staples like coats and boots. I’d suggest waiting on those heavier layers for now and instead taking a close look at mid-weight jackets (denim, leather, barn coats, shackets, etc.), jeans and sweaters, which will probably all be marked down this week. This good ol’ pair of straight-leg Levi’s is basically the Old Faithful of denim. Can you wear sneakers or ballet flats with this cut? Sure. Ankle boots underneath? Absolutely. A knee-high boot over? Why not? They’re also available in short, regular and long sizes. (One note: Many buyers say these run a bit big, so you may want to size down a smidge.)
“I bought several colors,” said one super-satisfied shopper. “These are so comfortable. I normally wear a 12 short, but in these I had to return and order 10 short. I love them … if you have a small waist, they may be big or gaping because they fit my apple shape. I’m 5 feet, 160 lbs. for reference. Length was good.”
Great time to buy: A classic pair of Levi’s for just $23? Yeah, we like the look of that savings.

Amazon
These may not be the fashion show, sneakerhead, influencer-hype shoes — but these are the get-it-done, stay-comfortable, slip-on workhorses that you wear all day long. They’re also a classic three-season shoe, perfect for getting up and around in the fall, spring and summer (though you’d probably appreciate something more heavy-duty for cold, wet winter). The signature Adidas Cloudfoam midsoles make them comfortable for anyone who is on their feet all day, while the adjustable elastic laces make them easy to put on and take off.

Best Amazon deals: Home
From our home expert: Thinking about getting a new vacuum? Now’s a great time, so you’re prepared for holiday visitors and the house cleaning hosting inevitably requires. I’m seeing discounts of $100 or more from all the big brands, like Shark, Bissell and Dyson — plus major deals on robot vacs. What I’d wait on are towels and sheets. While you can find some great stuff on sale for Prime Day, most brands will drop prices even lower in January during “white sales.” Browse more home deals here.

Amazon
Despite being a corded vac, this upright wonder from Shark is designed to clean anywhere you need it to — hard floors, carpets, stairs and more. The easy-detach Lift-Away pod enables fully portable cleaning, and the HEPA anti-allergen seal helps keep dust and other nasties trapped in the vac and not your sinuses (or the air you’re breathing). There are also multiple attachments on board, including a Pet Crevice tool to suck up Fido’s fur from hard-to-reach spaces and an upholstery tool that’ll erase debris from curtains, lampshades and other delicate fabrics, as well as surfaces like shelves and tables.
Perhaps most impressively for this unit, it offers self-cleaning functionality — the Shark brushroll helps to prevent hair wrap, which is incredibly handy if you have long hair or pets.
Great time to buy: This 43% discount is part of an early sale for Prime Big Deal days. That means it’s only valid for Prime members. If you’re not a member yet, this deal is almost enough to make up for the $139 yearly membership price — it equals the best price we’ve seen on the Navigator in over a year.

Amazon
Senior Deals Writer Britt Ross shares, “My sister is the real-life version of the Princess and the Pea — her standards are high! That’s why, when I used this blanket at her house and asked where it was from, I was surprised when she told me she’d gotten it at Amazon. It felt like heaven!
I’ve since purchased two: one for my bed and the other for my guest bedroom. The comforter is warm but lightweight — no night sweats. It’s incredibly soft, with a nice amount of fluff factor, thanks to box stitching that keeps the filling evenly distributed. Plus, it has loops attached to its sides, should you want to attach it to a duvet cover (I do this in the winter when I want a bit more coverage). To clean it, just toss it into the washer and dryer — mine still looks and feels just as sublime as the day I got it. All for just $30? Yeah, you’ll probably want to buy more than one as well.”

Best Amazon deals: Kitchen
From our kitchen expert: If you ask me, fall is the best time to be in the kitchen; it’s cool enough to turn the oven on, and we’re not yet dealing with holiday-meal-prep stress. Now is a smart time to stock up on smaller kitchen appliances, like air fryers, food processors and immersion blenders for less. (When it comes to larger appliances, like refrigerators and dishwashers, you’ll want to wait until Black Friday if you can.) Need some new cookware? You can also find deals on pots, pans and knife sets, but make sure the discounts are really substantial if you’re going to purchase now, as practically every big brand will have serious sales come November. Browse more kitchen deals here.

Amazon
Bakers and other folks with soft human hands, behold! A nearly-70% discount on our absolute favorite pair of oven mitts (and we tested a bunch before crowning a winner). These KitchenAid mitts performed well and looked good during testing, and our own Elizabeth Berry has owned them for about six months. She loves the soft, quilted polyester lining and flexible silicone exterior, which makes it comfortable to grip pots and pans.
Great time to buy: As little as $11 for the mitts that outperformed all others? Sold! You’ll get the best deal in gray (pictured) and black, available now for its lowest price of the year.

Amazon
Buying groceries in bulk can save money — but not if you never get around to eating all of the food you bought. Our very own Senior Writer Kelli McGrane, a registered dietitian, recommends using one of these top-sellers to cut down on waste. “If you’re really into freezing meals or ingredients ahead of time, it’s worth buying a vacuum sealer,” she says. “I’ve had clients who’ve saved serious money by buying family-sized packages of chicken at Costco, cutting the chicken into bite-sized pieces, then stashing them in vacuum-sealed freezer bags. Combine with some veggies and seasonings, and you have the foundation for no-fuss slow-cooker or dump-and-bake meals.” This nifty machine can seal 50 bags in 20 minutes, so feel free to stock up on your favorite foods during your next grocery run.
Great time to buy: This is just about as low as we’ve ever seen it on sale for, and when you consider how much food waste it can prevent, it’s a no-brainer.

Best Amazon deals: Tech
From our tech expert: If you’ve had a piece of Amazon tech on your to-buy list for a while, Prime Day is one of the best times of year to buy it — devices like the Fire TV Stick, Kindle, Echo and Eero tend to see some of their biggest discounts. And with holiday travel right around the corner, I’d look for deals on travel tech and accessories — portable chargers, AirTags, charging cables and noise-cancelling headphones are much cheaper on sale than at the airport when you realize you need them. Laptops and TVs can absolutely be worth buying too, but check the price history — with Black Friday less than two months away, you don’t need to jump on a mediocre deal. Browse more tech deals here.

Amazon
The Quiet Comfort series of headphones from Bose has a well-deserved reputation for delivering the best noise cancellation. If you’re traveling, trying to get some work done in a noisy environment or just want to turn off the clamor of the world at large, these should be on your list. This model is a couple of years old but still packs plenty of high-end features, including multi-point connections that let you switch between devices and an Awareness mode that lets you listen to your music while hearing the world around you.

Amazon
Prefer a smaller tablet over a bulky laptop? This one’s within a dollar of its best price ever. Senior Writer Chris McGraw says, “Think this is just a slightly larger version of your phone? Think again. With a 3:2 aspect ratio compared to the iPhone’s 2:1, the iPad Mini is much wider and, for those who use their tablets to read, can fit more text and feels more like a book or magazine in your hand. Speaking of fitting in your hand, it’s much less cumbersome than the full-size iPad, making it great for travel or slipping into a backpack for your commute.”

Best Amazon deals: Beauty
From our beauty expert: Prime Day is officially my cue to have my fall beauty routine prepped and ready to go, ’cause once my air conditioner goes into hibernation, I just know my skin is going to be in trouble. On that note, my advice is to grab a good barrier-repair serum and some rich eye cream while it’s on sale. Also, keep an eye on Amazon’s Premium Beauty shop, where brands that rarely go on sale tend to show up with impressive discounts — some even up to 30%! Browse more beauty deals here.

Amazon
When was the last time you replaced your toothbrush? If you can’t remember, it’s time for a new one. Shoppers say this electric model is effective and easy to use. It has a brush pacer that prompts you to clean a new area every 20 seconds and a timer that indicates when you complete a two-minute session. It also comes with a travel case and provides up to 21 days of regular brushing on a full charge, making it the ideal portable toothbrush for travel.
Great time to buy: This toothbrush appears to have hit Amazon’s virtual shelves in March, and since then, it’s only dipped lower in price once (and by just a few bucks).

CeraVe
CeraVe’s cult-favorite eye cream is one of the simpler formulations on the market, but it’s still super effective. It has hyaluronic acid to boost hydration, niacinamide to soothe and ceramides to support the skin’s protective barrier. This is a moisture-first approach (compared to active-infused eye creams) that keeps the delicate eye area smooth and comfortable, which makes fine lines and dullness look less obvious. We also named it a winner in our best eye creams testing. At this price, it’s an easy add-to-cart.
